Homework is an important part of the work done at Alec Reed Academy. It is essential for academic success. The Guide to Homework and Homework Timetable is sent to all parents at the start of each academic year. Specifically, homework:

  • adds a substantial amount of study time to a student’s education;
  • offers opportunities for work which is independent of the teacher;
  • can exploit materials and sources of information which are not accessible in the classroom;
  • allows students to complete work started in school;
  • allows students to practise skills learnt in the classroom;
  • permits the setting of tasks in accordance with the ability of the student;
  • strengthens home-school links enabling parental involvement;
  • set on a regular basis, encourages good study habits and ensures that work becomes part of the culture.
