Year 10s gain employability skills on Careers Day
Alec Reed Academy hosted a Careers Day on 20th June 2018 for Year 10 pupils. The Year 10s began the day by interviewing employers from different walks of life and gaining an insight into different careers. They then participated in various workshops including:
- CV Workshop
- Personal Statements (skills employers are looking for)
- Interview techniques
- Soft skills
- Motivation session to assist them to start thinking about career planning
Pupils gained valuable employability skills on their Careers Day. They learnt many skills including CV writing skills, the importance of body language in an interview and how to find opportunities to build their experience. They particularly enjoyed hotseating with employers from various companies and organisations including Santander, RAF, the Royal Navy, Middlesex University, and the Metropolitan Police.
It concluded on Thursday 21st June 2018 Careers Evening - 5:30pm - 7:30pm with a talk from employers about career routes after GCSEs, touching on A Levels, BTECs and Apprenticeships. Parents and pupils interacted and asked questions about the career paths available for them for future.
