Year 9s explore the Tower of London
Year 9s had a great day at the Tower of London learning about why William the Conqueror won the Battle of Hastings. The History department organised a visit to the Tower of London so that Year 9 students could build on their study of the Anglo-Saxon and Norman topic. The visit included a workshop on 1066 and the Norman Tower.
Students explored the magnificent keep and the challenges facing the still-precarious Norman court. Through examination of the exterior and defences students discovered the symbolic power of the great 'Norman fist on Anglo-Saxon soil'. Students learnt about the White Tower, built by the Normans after their victory to symbolise their power over the defeated Anglo-Saxons.
