First cohort of students complete BA in Professional Practice and Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning
Twelve students, including two from Alec Reed Academy and one from John Chilton School, handed in their 9000 word dissertations on Tuesday 15th May, to complete their final assignment on their degree course. The course has been delivered in collaboration with The Learning Institute, and accredited by the University of Worcester. The students will graduate at the University’s Degree Award Ceremonies in Worcester Cathedral in November.
They started three years ago on the Foundation Degree, as new undergraduates, and have worked extremely hard to complete a range of assignments on child development, safeguarding, behaviour for learning, curriculum development, reflective practice and personal research projects on a range of educational issues.
The students work in various local primary and special schools, and feedback from the schools suggests they have made significant contributions to the daily working life of their settings and the pupils they work with. Five of the students are progressing onto various teacher training courses and others are hoping to work with their settings to progress to Qualified Teacher Status, which Alec Reed Academy is planning to take a leading role in managing in collaboration with the Learning Institute.
This is the first cohort of students to complete the course at Alec Reed Academy. The second cohort are due to finish their Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning in June, and the majority are intending to progress to the BAPP. The Academy is in discussion with the Learning Institute to expand the range of courses to include a Foundation Degree in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and one in Sport, to provide progression routes for its successful partnerships with sports organisations.
