Alec Reed Academy raises £430 for homeless charity FIRMfoundation

Alec Reed Academy were lucky to secure a place on the Dame Kelly Holmes Foundation project “On Track To Achieve”.  World class boxer Hannah Beharry attended the Academy on different sessions to work with 18 Year 10 students who were set a task of organising a community project.

The project that they chose was a charity run to raise money for FIRMfoundation, a charity for the homeless.  ARA were also allocated a business mentor from the Bell Group, Rosanna joined our session helping to mentor our pupils.  The Bell Group kindly donated £250.00 to us; £50 of this money went on prizes for our raffle. To raise awareness of our charity event, pupils met with Mr Lobbett and visited form classes and spoke in assemblies.

On July 13th, all their hard work came together with pupils and staff running around the academy building, fun was had by all as they were being cooled down with a good spraying from hoses. Laura from FIRMfoundation, Rosanna from the Bell Group and Hannah Beharry from the Dame Kelly Holmes Foundation were there to help on the day and show their support.  Through our pupils’ hard work, we managed to raise another £230.00, making our total amount raised to £430.  Although the pupils had been out all morning on a very hot day taking part in Sports Day, we are very proud to say that they all participated with great enthusiasm throughout.
