Year 12s meet Dame Kelly Holmes at PruGoals Ride London training session
On Wednesday 25th April, a group of students from Year 12 participated in the second training event for the PruGoals Ride London event. They spent a day at the Olympic velodrome in Stratford. In the first session, they learnt about nutrition, led by an ex-professional GB swimmer. In the subsequent session they were taken out onto the road by professional cycle instructors who trained them on how to ride safely with other road users.
The best session was saved till last where they were blessed by the presence of the inspirational double gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes. She shared her own experiences of overcoming injury, age and depression to win her gold medals in Athens 2004 against all odds. She is a shining example for all of them and they were honoured to meet her in person.
Special mentions to Crojan and Arthur who cycled all the way from Northolt to Stratford (albeit only because they missed the bike drop off!).
After this inspirational day they are certainly spurred and encouraged to keep on training for the gruelling 46-mile ride ahead of them in the summer. We look forward to seeing all of the Year 12 participants at training and in July for the big 46-mile ride.
