Top pupils take part in London wide Maths competition
Five Year 9 pupils from the top set were selected to participate in a London-wide Maths competition. Daria, Sarah, Khyber, Talhah and Hadleigh have worked tirelessly with Mr Joshi since January. They have been taking part in after school sessions to perfect their mathematical skills to compete in the competition known as the Count on Us Secondary Challenge run by the Mayor’s Fund for London. Students competed in various problem solving activities ranging from algebra to mental arithmetic, working both individually and as a solid group of 5.
The heat was held at Hammersmith Academy on 26th April with the team battling against another 11 schools in the city. They accumulated an outstanding total of 194 points, only missing qualification to the semi-finals by a mere 6 points! Their hard work and dedication over the course of the last 4 months, in addition to the fantastic fashion in which they represented Alec Reed Academy and themselves was phenomenal, and they should be congratulated for these achievements! A massive thank you to Ms Flemming who attended the trip and showed her enthusiasm during the activities!
The 5 star pupils received certificates for taking part in the competition and will also be receiving a £5 voucher from the Maths department for their commitment. Well done, team!
