Welcome to our Degree Courses

Performance

The Foundation Degree is graded Pass/Fail, each assignment is graded for developmental purposes A+ - D-, or Fail. Grades achieved are in line with or better than existing well-established Learning Institute Centres: 12% A grade, 22% B grade, 30% C grade, 24% D grade. The failure rate for assignments is around 10%, but with 100% of these passing on resubmission. 15 students completed the course in the first cohort to graduate with a Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning, the majority attending the graduation ceremony in Worcester Cathedral.

13 of these students have continued onto the BA in Professional Practice which started in September 2017. Two of these students have already secured places on a PGCE course for next year to become qualified teachers.

There are 22 students in the second cohort and 16 students in the third cohort.
Three students from Levels 4 and 5 were interviewed last year for roles as cover supervisors, a significant enhancement of their current roles as TAs. All were appointed after interviewing strongly, referring to their learning from the Foundation Degree to support their applications.

Several students have reported increased responsibility in various aspects of their roles in their own schools, such as:

  • Appointment to an HLTA post on the strength of FD study, despite not having HLTA qualification.
  • Responsibility for whole class teaching on a regular basis to cover staff shortage.
  • Appointment to TA roles in schools where previously working as a volunteer support worker.
  • Responsibility for a specific school initiative such as one aspect of Pupil Premium provision as a result of in depth research and recommendation from a work based study.
  • Responsibility for specific interventions for literacy or numeracy as a result of demonstrating knowledge and understanding following specific study.
  • Motivation to access further CPD and assertiveness to request it.
