Chelsea show garden will be relocated to Alec Reed Academy

Alec Reed Primary is to receive a special garden from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show after it closes.

The garden highlights and celebrates the importance of children's access to nature. Once relocated to Northolt, it will provide an educational resource for the school. The charity School Food Matters, which delivers food education programmes to youngsters, and invited its partner schools to apply for the Chelsea garden.

Alec Reed, in Bengarth Road, was selected for the impact it will have on pupils and for its ideas about how to incorporate it into the school grounds. Head teacher Anne Franklin said: “Most of our children have very little outdoor space at home and all of our children are in need of a little extra TLC. “Winning this garden will provide the opportunity for our children to tread gently and to go slowly amid the busyness of day-to-day life. “Every class will have scheduled sessions in the garden, and they will also have group reading time there which will help them to de-stress and to relax.”
School Food Matters won the opportunity to create a garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in collaboration with the award-winning Harry Holding Studio.
